In the early 19th century, German immigrants brought their time-honoured traditions to Australia, including the craft of schnapps distillation. Among these pioneers were families who settled in Victoria's fertile King Valley, a region that later became synonymous with quality produce and artisanal spirits.
The first pear trees were planted with great care, nurtured by the same hands that would later harvest their fruits. As the trees grew, so did the community's anticipation. Finally, the day came when the pears were ripe for picking, and the air was filled with the sweet aroma of fresh fruit.
The distillation process was a community event, a gathering of families and friends who took great pride in their craft. Using copper alembic stills, the pears were transformed into a liquid gold that captured the essence of the fruit and the spirit of the community. The schnapps was often enjoyed at gatherings, a toast to good health and prosperity, always accompanied by the traditional German cheer, "Prost!"
Today, we at Paddock To Flask are proud to be part of this rich history. We source our pears from local orchards that share our commitment to sustainable farming and quality produce. Our Birnenschnaps is a tribute to the generations that came before us, a celebration of our community, and, most importantly, a delicious spirit that brings people together.
So here's to history, to tradition, and to the timeless joy of enjoying a glass of Birnenschnaps. Prost!
